On Friday, accomplished actress Dame Maggie Smith died at the age of 89. She is known to Gen Z and millennials for her role as Professor Minerva McGonagall in the “Harry Potter” film franchise. For a generation of viewers, Smith became a beacon of comfort as a grandmotherly figure across Harry Potter and Downton Abbey, but her filmography dates all the way back to 1956, and is preceded by a successful theater career.
